This series represents "play" and "escape" in the very best of senses. Spirit Notes grew out of a series I began in 2008 and called my “Ring of Fire/Circle of Life” series. The initial parameters were that each painting was eight-inches square, watercolor was to be the main medium and each painting incorporated a large circle or “ring.” The circle/ring is no longer a requirement for every painting, though it does continue to appear often.
Though not investigated on a daily basis, I work on my Spirit Notes whenever the mood strikes and I desire to break out of the confines of working  in a traditional and realistic manner, as with my daily landscapes.
