Though best known regionally
for my vertical pastel landscapes of Northern New Mexico, many art fans
are unaware that I am also a prolific mixed-media artist.
Inspiration comes
to me via many sources, but particularly through the realm of nature,
memories of the landscape, and reflections on and experiences of travel,
exploration and journey — journeys not just of the physical but
the emotional, sensual and spiritual as well. Further stimulation for
me is found in the intimate artifacts and ephemera of daily life —
vestiges of long-ago passions and experience. The ordering and recording
of the passage of time — journals and diaries, calendars and maps,
lists and catalogues — inspire and inform my work.
By abstracting
recognizable imagery, and arranging, layering and ordering these with
fragments of visual artifacts, I seek to convey a sense of memory and
intimacy, awakening and desire, passion and sensuality, and —
ultimately — hope. |
